A new rule now lets work permit holders study short courses without a separate permit — plus Manitoba, Alberta, and BC all held draws this month.

New this month: if you hold a valid work permit, as of September 4, 2026 you can take a course of six months or less without needing a separate study permit. This removes a real barrier for people wanting to upskill while working in Canada.

Provincial Nominee Program activity was active across the country this month. Manitoba issued 793 invitations under its International Education Stream and Skilled Worker Overseas category (EOI draw #279, September 10). Alberta held three rounds under the AAIP: 575 invitations through the Opportunity Stream (September 1), 96 through the Accelerated Tech Pathway (September 3), and 51 through the Dedicated Health Care Pathway (September 9). BC issued 182 invitations in its Childcare stream (September 10), and Newfoundland & Labrador continued regular invitation rounds through the month.
